Discussions with Daddy: Segment 1

In honor of Father's Day this weekend, I'm going to get in gear and actually write this post that I've been meaning to for a while.  As a preface, let me first say that Emery couldn't have been more fortunate in the Papa lottery.  Ryan goes above and beyond to spend time with, and help with, our little boogie in any way he can.  As an example, this week he's been on nights. In order to spend time with our little one, after he gets home at 6:30 AM after 12 hours of work, he stays up and takes her to school.  This morning he really melted my heart when he proclaimed that he missed her and was going to go pick her up from school as soon as he woke up.  Yesterday he also spent most of his awake hours before work getting baby supplies for the week.  So yeah-  he's pretty great to us.

Enough sap, right?  Let's get to the point.  Any of you familiar with my dear better 1/3rd (and that should be all of my 2.5 readers) know that you can never be absolutely sure what will come out of his mouth.  Unless he's trying to sing along to a Spanish song in which case it will just be, "Que, que, que, que," in varying inflections.  This lack of predictability has led to a lot of laughter in our house.  A LOT.  From imparting nuggets of wisdom upon our daughter to discussing her finer points- Daddy provides a lot of soundbites I feel should be forever immortalized via this blog.  Keep in mind most of these are overhead while I'm in the other room doing something.  Heaven only knows what gets discussed when Mama isn't around.

I neglected to start jotting down these things until fairly recently.  So regretfully I've probably missed quite a few but rest assured this will probably become a semi regular segment here.  Happy Friday to the blogosphere, and Happy Daddy's Day to all you proud papas.  Enjoy!

  • (Talking to me during a particularly rough colic period):  "She's such a cute ball of terror.  She's like a bunny with a knife."
  • (Explaining her hands to her): "This is the index finger- you use it to point at things.  This is your middle finger- you use that for driving.  This is your ring finger- it's the one that will cost some poor sap like $30 grand one day.  That's inflation-adjusted.  We'll get to inflation later."
  • (Practicing vowel sounds):  "Aaaaaaa, Eeeeeeee, I is for Igneous rock, Oooooo, Uuuuuuuuu."
  • (Talking to me during a pretty trying trip to Conroe):  "She's like the bomb on Speed.  If we slow down, this car is going to explode."
  • (Discussing his theories on how to impress upon her the importance of not getting pregnant as a teen). "I'm going to make her watch a Teen Mom marathon.  I'm going to take her allowance to buy diapers.  Then I'm going to walk into her room at all hours of the night and wake her with an airhorn.  Tying her tubes now is off the table, right?"

Who Knew?

February 27, 2010 as I stood in my parents' backyard amidst coffee-throwing and menu-reciting I thought that Ryan and I were the happiest we could possibly be.  Three years later as I sit here about 11 days out from our due date, I realize how wrong I was.  I look forward to many, many more years of finding new heights of happiness.  Thanks for all you do, sweet, silly best friend and husband of mine.

I know it's blurry, but this picture makes my heart so full.

Just because I couldn't have a totally serious post.

Half Off?

I hope that everyone had a very, very merry holiday.  I'll be back soon to give you in-depth updates on how the family Martin spent their time off.  In the meantime, please enjoy the following insight into husband dearest's idea of a good deal opportunity.  If you're back at work today like I am- perhaps it will give you a much needed laugh.  If you're out taking advantage of the sales- hey, here's one more you might want to check out.

I nabbed myself a keeper, fo shizzle.

Looks Like We Made It

One year ago today I forever hitched my wagon to a man who loves the dollar menu at Jack in the Box nearly as much as he loves me.  He also happens to be the most hilarious, intelligent and handsome man I know.  Not a day has gone by that I haven't laughed.  Multiple times.  Even on the days when I wanted to punch him in the nose (luckily I've not kept track of what percentage of 365 that was in the current year), I still fell asleep at night knowing that I am the luckiest girl in the world.

Thank you for standing by my side through the ups and downs that life has dealt us over the past year (and the 4.5 before that).  None of the good times would have been as sweet nor the tough times as bearable without you.  Happy 1 year, Mr. Martin!  I look forward to what year 2 has in store for us.

Can you believe we made it 1 year?!  Who'd have thunk?

P.S. Thank you also, once again, to everyone who helped to get us where we are today.  Your love and support are priceless.  We truly are blessed beyond measure to have the world's greatest friends and family - not a day goes by that we aren't grateful for that.  Plus, you guys have some killer dance moves.  Much love!

Get it Mr. Sumerlin!

Tiffany, was Sandy sure or un-sure?

Grandpa B has moves like Jager.

My MOH was out-rage-ous.

 Group  hugs to all!  XOXO.

Tuesday Quickie

If that title didn't get your attention, you need some more coffee because you're likely comatose.  I meant to get this very short post up prior to the close of 2011, buuuuuut I obviously did not.

I'm really not a New Year's resolution maker, but for some reason this year it seemed pertinent.  The process of making my resolution went like this:

Me:  I think my New Year's resolution this year will be to stop texting while driving.  (I know, I know- this is a TERRIBLE habit).  What's your's going to be?
Ryan:  To wash my car.
Me:  Oh, like once a month?
Ryan:  No, just once.  No need to set my sights too high.
Me:  Mmmmmmk.

After a few more moments of careful consideration and blank staring from yours truly....

Ryan:  Also, to stay married.

I hope that everyone else finds themselves starting the New Year with the same admirable level of ambition the Martins obviously have.  I'll be back to recap how we rang in 2012 at some point hopefully in the next month.  :c)

Wedded Bliss

My most recent bout of blogger absenteeism is due to the fact that I finally married that crazy guy who oftentimes make appearances in pictures on this blog... typically in some kind of ridiculous headwear.

I'm sure everyone is dying to know every excruciating detail of the entire shindig from start to finish**.  Have NO fear friends, those are coming to a screen near you very soon (Do you hear that self?!  Soon.)  For those of you who can not stand the thought of waiting however long that may take- conjure images of Kate & William's wedding and make the following substitutions: 1) daper-looking uniform for pimp shoes, 2) fancy hats for cardboard cut-outs and 3) stately accents for "It won't be that bad."  That is more or less the beginning of the rest of my life in a nutshell.

To aid in quelling the anticipation, I leave you with my first story of wedded bliss.  This past Sunday, our first day of married-dom outside the borders of our honeymoon paradise, we wake up at about 10 am and have the following exchange:

Me:  What do you want to do today?
Ryan: I don't know.  Man, married life is already so boring.

Lucky. Lady.  I hope you all have a very happy Monday!
