Nuptial News: Installment Twelve

Wow.  So this is my last one of these.  I really dont have a clue how that happened... but what I do know is that one month from today I'm getting hitched.  It's started to get pretty real in the last month and I can't really put into words how excited I am.  So, you'll just have to trust me.

Things Accomplished:
  • Survived my Bachelorette Party
  • Final dress fitting
  • Hair/make up trial
  • Table numbers finished
  • Figured out my something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
  • Ordered BM gifts
  • Scanned pictures for rehearsal dinner slideshow
  • Met with our pastor to finalize ceremony details
  • Finished our pre marital counseling
  • Set up final appointments with all of our vendors & our wedding day coodinator

Things in the Pipeline:
  • Finalizing programs
  • Figuring out seating arrangements
  • Final decor appointment
  • Get our marriage license
  • Finalizing favors/escort cards
  • Surviving Ryan's bachelor party
Ryan's Contributions:
  • Ordered rehearsal dinner invites
  • Finalized rehearsal dinner menu
  • Sent out rehearsal dinner invites
  • Tracked down a projector for rehearsal dinner slideshow
  • Ordered groomsmen gifts
  • Finalized music
  • May or may not have "personalized" some rehearsal dinner invites (you didn't think it would all be serious, did you?)
Since this is my final one of these, I just have to say thank you to everyone who has helped along the way- from actually physically helping (cutting fabric is harder than you might imagine at first), to emotionally supporting me, to advice, to sweet comments- this all very literally could not be coming together without you.  I most especially want to thank: (1) my gorgeous MOHs for planning the best shower/bachelorette party ever and for making sure that I maintain some semblance of sanity thoughout this process, (2) my fabulous bachelorette party attendees & beautiful bridesmaids for making sure that I have the time of my life and for spoiling me to bits, (3) my sweet, sweet mother and father who have helped me get everything on the list checked off and (4) my loving fiance- mainly for just not dumping me (I am sure you considered).  I love you all muchly.

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY PRECIOUS (almost) NIECE!

Nuptial News: Installment Eleven

I usually write these things by doing the bullet points first and then adding in words around them.  In reading Ryan's contributions below, if you do not know him (or perhaps even if you do...), I can see how you might wonder what I think I'm doing with my life.  Please note that I do not always put all of his contributions in here- he actually is a wonderful man who keeps me sane and helps me immensely... but you don't want to hear about that, do you?

Things Accomplished:
  • Had my first dress fitting
  • Purchased Ryan's engagement ring wedding band
  • Ordered my wedding band
  • Started stuffing wedding invitations
  • Attended our first marriage counseling session (and are still under the impression this whole marriage thing is a good idea)
  • Ordered flower girl basket
  • Ordered flower girl shoes
  • Ordered groomsmen pocket squares
  • Came up with a plan for table numbers
  • Made* some table overlays
Things in the Pipeline:
  •  Programs
  •  Escort cards
Ryan's Contributions:
  • Ordered a used marriage counseling book off of Amazon.  Gotta love his thriftiness.  Until you realize that the person selling it actually filled in their own answers.
  • Made me propose to him in front of my whole family at the Cheesecake factory after we purchased his "engagement ring" on what he now refers to as his "engagement weekend."
I AM SO EXCITED!

* By "made" I actually mean "cut a huge bolt of fabric."

Nuptial News: Installment Ten

Alright my little crumpets... work has gotten a little out of hand again lately.  I'm embroiled in busy season number 3 and trying to get to as many recruiting events in Austin as I can as well.  So - needless to say, time is in short supply once again.  Luckily I feel like we have most of the big things nailed down.  Does anyone care to audit that?  Please let me know if it seems like I'm completely missing the boat on something.  :c)

Things Accomplished:
  • Found Caddy's wedding day attire
  • Ordered my veil
  • Finished designing our invitations
Things in the Pipeline:
  • Program design
  • Escort Card design
Ryan's Contributions:
  • Setting up our pre-marital counseling
  • Informing me he could not make it to our first pre-martital counseling session because it was during a Women's Final Four game.  Don't worry, this will indeed be noted at said session.
Dear July - Please hurry.  And come prepared.

Nuptial News: Installment Nine

Writing "Installment Nine" gave me butterflies in my stomach.  Somehow it simultaneously feels like I've been engaged for 5 years and yet ALLLLL the time I had for planning is evaporating.  Oh time- you silly minx.  So, can't say I'm uber proud of the quantity of items I've accomplished this month but I got a LOT done last month so it's okay, right?

Things Accomplished:
  • Set up my dress alteration appointment
  • Set up my make up/hair trial
  • Ordered my garter
  • Figured out how I want to wear my hair (I think)
  • Figured out what style of veil I like (I think)
  • Invitation design re-fining

Things in the Pipeline:
  • Veil
  • Invitations
  • Escort Cards

Ryan's Contributions:
Hurry up July.  :c)

Nuptial News: Installment Eight

As cliche as it may sound, I can't believe we're only 5 months away.  I have allllll kinds of countdowns going on these days.  Days until busy season client #1 files: 5, Days until busy season client #3 files: 80(ish), Days until I'm eternally bonded to a man who thinks saying "m'lady" beforehand makes anything that comes out of his mouth polite: 150.  While I'm EXTREMELY excited about the first two, I'm hands-down most excited about the last.

Things Accomplished:
  • Floral/Decor BOOKED (BIG woohoo)
  • Hair/make up booked
  • A little website tweaking
  • A little registry tweaking
  • Made hotel reservations
  • Reserved hotel suite for getting ready with my hottie maids & other loved ones on the wedding day
  • Ordered bridesmaid shoes
  • Ordered coordinating ties for the dudes' tuxes
  • Ordered Guestbook
  • Ordered a little reception decor-related stuff
  • Ordered my jewelry/accessories
  • Ordered my shoes
Things in the Pipeline:
  • Invitations
  • BMaid Jewelry
Ryan's Contributions:
  • Rehearsal Dinner location officially booked
  • Picked out tuxes
  • May or may not have inappropriately addressed you as a "Mrs." when you are not married
I would like to thank everybody who is not me for all of your contributions to this shindig.  Mom, Jen, Julie, Ryan, Tiff - I couldn't do it without you.  I owe you all my first born.  You can armwrestle over him/her.

Nuptial News: Installment Seven

So, December was not as productive as I'd hoped.  Ryan on the other hand deserves some major kudos because he's contributed much more this month to the festivities than I have.  I resolve to do better in the coming month.  Hopefully busy season doesn't force me to eat my words.  :c)

Things Accomplished:
  • I THINK we settled on a florist/decor company... I'm not linking here so that I don't jinx anything though. :c)

Things in the Pipeline:
  • Still make up person (thanks for your suggestions!)
  • Invitations

Ryan's Contributions:
  • Reserved our Rehearsal Dinner location
  • Ordered our Save the Dates
Six months left.  CRAZY!

Nuptial News: Installment Six

It appears to have become a trend in these past few posts that I feel like I've gotten absolutely nothing accomplished.  In order to make myself feel slightly more accomplished I try to spread things out into more bullet points.  I do the same thing on my to-do lists at work.  That tip is on the house, ladies & gentlemen.   Here we go...

Things Accomplished:
  • Booked a DJ
  • Selected a menu
  • Selected the wine
  • Set up a timeline for the evening
  • Set up the table lay out
  • Guest List tweaked
Things in the Pipeline:
  • Flowers (the day we get this nailed down I will buy you all a beer)
  • Decor
  • Hair/Make up person (anyone have someone they LOOOOVED?)
Ryan's Contributions:
  • Rolling into our menu tasting straight from a flight from Vegas.  In a Harvard shirt because it "makes him look smarter."
  • Waft testing every wine we tried.
Everyone cross your fingers that my post on January 9th says we have flowers and decor checked off.  :c)

Nuptial News: Installment Five

Okay, so last month I said I didn't get much done.  This month I REALLY didn't get much done.  I blame that on the following:  (1) being in Canada for 1 out of the 4 weeks in this month, (2) quarter and (3) some other potentially exciting life events that I will fill you in on at a later date.  Assuming things work out.  This is going to be very subpar, but in the interest of continuing to remain accountable, here we go...

Things Accomplished:
Things in the Pipeline:
  • Menu
  • Still that darn DJ thing
  • Decor/Flowers
Ryan's Contributions:
  • Scanning me as an intended registry item
  • Nothing says romance like receiving a conference call invitation from the love of your life. Behold:

Here's to a (fingers crossed) uber-productive November!

* if you have been thinking to yourself - man, Amy is SUCH a good friend and I really want to send her a present but I dont know what... fear no more friends, I have made some lists.  What can I say?  I'm a helper.

Nuptial News: Installment Four

Seriously - how are we on installment four?!  This past month I've been pretty wrapped up in/distracted by work.  I hate when earning my livelihood gets in the way of life.  ;c)  Juuuust kidding.  This has been a very transitional month though.  We had a ton of appointments and what not last month and this month I just really haven't had the time.  So forgive me.  Like I said... if you're into pro bono wedding planning, PUH-LEASE help a sista out.  ;c)

Things Accomplished:
  • Bridesmaids Dresses ordered
  • Engagement pictures taken
  • Cakes ordered
  • Accent color selected
  • Emailed a bajillion DJs
  • Got some quotes from decor places
Things in the Pipeline:
  • DJ
  • Decor
  • Flowers
  • Save the Dates
Ryan's Contributions:
  • emailing DJs
  • posing in several positions he found unmanly (kudos) with minimal complaining
Woohoo - 1 more month closer.  :c)

Nuptial News: Installment Two

In comparing this issue to the first, you would think I've gotten nothing done this month.  You would be mostly correct... but I did get one BIG thing crossed off the list.  I now have a dress.  This was the part of the process I was most nervous about (after finding a place that is).  It is such a relief to have it crossed off!

The timing worked out so perfectly and I could not feel more fortunate.  On July 24th I went to the Princess Bridal with my Mom, Jen, Julie, Mrs. Martin and Tiffany in tow.  I am so thankful they were there because I was standing in the middle of a room blankly staring and not saying anything.  You might say I was catatonic.  Luckily they flew into action and started pulling dresses...otherwise I may have stood in the same position for at least 45 minutes.  I tried on about 8 and we all agreed one was a winner.  It happened to be exactly my size.  We left without getting it because my Mom is a lot more logical than me.  :c)

Later in the week my Mom told me since it's a big purchase, you want to be absolutely sure and since it was the first time I'd tried on dresses maybe I should try another place.  Blah, blah, blah... All VERY logical and wise things to say.  I booked an appointment at another bridal place and then called back the Princess Bridal to make my follow up appointment (I felt pretty certain this was my dress).  When I called back the Princess Bridal I found out the dress I'd tried on was for sale in a sample sale the weekend of July 29th and that it was 60% off.  Immediate rush of panic.  I set up an appointment at 5 pm on Thursday (the first full day of the sample sale).  I also proceeded to inform them that I'd be calling the next day to check on it.  A lot.

I called the next day at 11:30 (1.5 hours into the sample sale, mind you) and they told me a lady from the Woodlands had called about that exact dress and was on her way to look at it.  I crossed my fingers, moved my appointment up to 3:00 and got myself some Schlotzkys that I was too nervous to eat.  At about 1:45 my Mom and sister couldn't take the suspense anymore.  They called and told me they were going up there and that I should follow suit.  I got there at 2:30 and miraculously the dress was still there.  I knew because my Mom and sister were standing next to it, guarding it like lions.  A few people there told me that I was very lucky because the dress had been tried on already that day.  Apparently the person from the Woodlands had tried it on and left to think about it. I tried it on one last time, teared up a little and the dress was sold.

"What does it look like?"  It is white.  That's about all I will divulge.  I've always been a weirdo about dresses.  I wouldn't even show my homecoming dates my dresses beforehand.  I don't want you all envisioning some ethereal goddess and then being disappointed when it's just me.  :c)  The only disappointment I want anyone experiencing on July 9th is that Ryan didn't enter on an elephant.  Oops, did I reveal too much?

Things Accomplished:
  • BOUGHT A WEDDING DRESS!
  • Set up a date for a bridesmaid dress-a-palooza
  • Set firm date for engagement pics
  • Started researching videographers
  • Set up a food tasting appointment
  • Added more questions and to-dos to my list
Things in the Pipeline*:
  • Still shoes (though thanks to Shawna's photoshopping skills I have some more ideas)
  • Booking an officiant/minister
  • Videographer
  • DJ
  • Everything
Ryan's Contributions:
  • Wedding Favors: Whataburger bucks
  • DJ:  A DJ who is also a magician
* if you have suggestions, by all means - lay 'em on me!

I wonder what I'll get accomplished in the next month....

Nuptial News: Installment One

So, I heard a rumor that wedding planning is some pretty crazy stuff.  Since as of today (I set this to autopost - maaaaan I'm clever!) we are at the one year mark, I have decided I better start documenting things.  I have 3 motivating factors for this: 1) to remind myself that progress is being made because I'm sure there will be days when I will feel completely the opposite, 2) to remember this time and 3) to remind myself of all the ideas (and belly laughs) Ryan contributes to the experience.

Without further ado...

Things Accomplished:
In the Creative Pipeline:
  • Flower ideas
  • Shoe ideas (duh)
  • Centerpiece ideas
Ryan's Ideas:
  • Wedding venue: Memorial City Mall
  • Wedding DJ: Ryan Martin
  • Groom entrance on an elephant
  • Groom apparel: all white tux
  • Honeymoon destination: South Padre Island
  • First Dance Song (he doesn't always strike out)
If any of you are interested in planning the rest of this, please let me know.  Decisions are hard.  :c)
